SOUP - by Soren Ragsdale (soren@cs.arizona.edu)
SOUP was originally written in ANSI C for UNIX.
Both PPC and 68K versions availiable.
It takes your phone number and finds what words you can spell using the letters
on the phone.
V1.0b1 does not separate words - thus 223-4247 (bad-hair) will read out as
BADHAIR. Word separations may be included in version 2.
Coming soon:
hotsoup - I'm taking a CS data structures class, and what I'm learning there will
help me speed up this code TREMENDOUSLY. Hotsoup uses recursive hash tables to
do word lookups in O(n) time rather than O(n^n) which is what it's at now. It's
also a HUGE memory hog, and may require as much as 10MB. This version is mainly
intended for UN*X workstations, and will probably be web-accessible.
warmsoup - Slower than hotsoup, much faster than soup - this will use
nonrecursive hash tables and a better hash function to hopefully reach a happy
medium between memory usage and speed.
I know absolutely no Mac programming (sadly enough), and if anyone would like to
help me write a GUI for Soup they're more than welcome to. I'm thinking a simple
3x4 on-screen keypad or something.
